The world of online casinos is growing at a rapid pace, but not always in the right direction.

While many platforms operate within legal and ethical boundaries, a rising number of unlicensed online casinos are creating serious risks for unsuspecting players. These operators often by regulations, putting s’ money, data, and privacy at risk.

To operate legally in the iGaming industry, online casinos must obtain a license from a recognized gaming authority in any country. This process tends to be quite bureaucratic and time-consuming, especially if a license is being obtained from a reputable body, however the strict legal requirements are implemented in the best interest of consumers. The strict regulations imposed by the European union also makes this process relatively lengthy.

As part of its mission to raise awareness about the risks of non-compliant websites, the Malta Gaming Authority or MGA, published a list of 17 unlicensed online platforms, all of which claim that they are regulated by the MGA. The MGA declared that “it has no connection” with the following sites:

The MGA also stated that “Any reference to the MGA and/or gaming licence/s said to be issued by the Maltese Authority, as stated by the above websites, is false and misleading”.

It also reminded consumers not to utilise services provided by an entity unless they have ascertained that the entity in question is authorised to provide such services by the MGA.

Whilst stressing that the gaming regulatory framework obliges authorised persons to comply with strict legal requirements in the interest of consumers, the MGA also provided a list of MGA-licensed entities.
