Upon acquisition of a Critical Gaming Supply Licence from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), and what looks to be the end of COVID restrictions, R Franco Digital, a Spanish gambling solutions developer, is looking forward to “very exciting” expansion plans.

CCO of R Franco Digital, Mario Benito spoke to European Gaming about the challenges of the last year and what the company is forecasting for their new venture in Malta.

With the recent acquisition of a licence to operate from the MGA, R Franco are currently licensed to operate in Spain, Colombia, Portugal, Belgium and now, Malta. Mr Benito remarked that “the next 12 months will be focused on [the Maltese market] for us, which provides us with enormous opportunities to expand our business”.

Asked about growth potential in Europe, Mr Benito commented that the Dutch market will be a great opportunity as “it is already an established market in many ways” as the Dutch spend more on gambling than many other European markets, which is set to increase when new regulations will come into force in October.

Speaking about the state of the industry in their home market in Spain and about the latest restrictions on advertising, Mr Benito explained that “it has indeed been a difficult year for Spanish operators. New regulations meant increased advertising restrictions and new rules around bonusing and this had the double impact of making it more difficult to attract new players and also to keep them.”

Optimistically, Mr Benito remarked that “at the same time, this is a very versatile market and there is still plenty of room for manoeuvre, so we are sure that there will be a recovery. As one of the market’s leading players we look forward to helping drive that recovery – and we see plenty of potential for activity returning once the conditions are right.”

Looking forward and with the UEFA Football Championships quickly approaching, Mr Benito is confident that the gambling and iGaming industry will experience a boost and believes this summer “will prove be one to .”
